Meet the Team

Rebecca Bell - Attorney at law

Born in Alexandria, Minnesota, where her parents had a resort, Rebecca is an honors graduate in Hospitality Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Rebecca’s extensive business leadership skills took root growing up in her family’s hospitality business, which developed Midwest hotel properties from inception to opening and beyond.   An entrepreneur herself, in 2001 she expanded the family business with the launch of her own hotel consulting company.  Rebecca has also taught Hospitality Law and Liability at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Rebecca received her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law, where she was Business Manager of the William Mitchell Law Review for two years and has received the College’s Alumni Award of Merit.  Prior to founding rb LEGAL, LLC, Rebecca worked for the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Minnesota State Board of Law Examiners (an Agency of the Minnesota Supreme Court), she taught for six years as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Hamline University School of Law.

Rebecca's first career was in the hospitality industry. That meant working at the hotel's front desk dealing with people, each unique. Her real job was to listen to what people wanted and understand their needs (even if they couldn’t articulate them). People came in with an assortment of emotions, but all wanted to be heard, understood and taken care of. She enjoyed solving their problems and sending them away with a smile. With this experience, Rebecca created a different type of law firm where we stay away from the clock when we can. We take the time to listen. We are smart, conscientious and do a good job for our clients.

As a complement to her other practice areas, Rebecca devotes a portion of her practice to estate planning including wills, trusts, farm and cabin issues, probate and elder law. She also advises business clients on succession planning with the knowledge and experience of her business background.

Rebecca’s equine experience started when her family purchased their first horse in 1969.  They have continuously owned and bred horses to this day.  She competes successfully at horse shows throughout the United States and Canada. Rebecca attended William Woods University in Equestrian Studies for two years before completing her degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Kjirsten Lee - Attorney at Law

Kjirsten focuses on helping people prevent and solve problems. She assists clients in general civil matters, focusing particularly on business and equine law. She has worked on matters involving buy-sell agreements, contract disputes, commercial leases, real estate transactions, buying and selling horses, conducting legal audits, and more.

A lifelong equestrian, Kjirsten combines nearly 20 years of experience in the horse industry with her legal knowledge to deliver services uniquely tailored to horse people. She has spoken on equine law and writes a regular equine law column for Horse Nation. Kjirsten can relate to horse owners’ specific questions and concerns. She helps clients draft contracts that are easy to understand and protect clients' legal rights when buying or selling a horse, boarding horses, or leasing horses. She also drafts professional liability releases for trainers and barn owners, as well as personal liability releases for horse owners.

Kjirsten is an honors graduate of Albion College in Albion, Michigan, where she studied French and Communication Studies. She has her law degree from Michigan State University College of Law, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Animal and Natural Resources Law.

Alexia Miles - Attorney at law

Alexia Miles has always enjoyed helping others and solving problems.  As a young girl, Alexia would ask her parents for more chores so she could help out around the house. She’d ask her teachers if she could skip recess to assist them in the classroom.  She would also volunteer to do “extra” homework because she liked to solve problems. Years later, while working for a retirement plan, she got her first chance to help someone understand a complex legal problem. That opportunity was the spark that led her to take the LSAT and begin her legal career.  Don’t you want someone that loves problem solving on your team?

Today, Alexia practices exclusively in the area of Estate Planning (Wills, Trusts) and Estate Administration.  She is also slowly growing her expertise in the Elder Law area.  Alexia joined rb Legal as an Associate Attorney in 2016. She enjoys helping clients accomplish their goals and understand the best solutions to protect their families.  Alexia earned her law degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Mitchell Hamline School of Law (formerly William Mitchell College of Law) in St. Paul, Minnesota. She focused her studies on estate planning, trusts, and tax law. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from University of Northwestern - St. Paul.

In her spare time, Alexia enjoys reading any genre of well-written novels, listening to public radio or James Taylor, playing board games (and preferably winning!), spending time with her family, and cherishing Minnesota’s short summers.

Marian Peck - of council

Marian began her career in the music industry and spent many years as a musician and music teacher. That experience provided many opportunities to help, encourage and promote self-confidence with students from kindergarten through college. While teaching, she was named Teacher Rights Chairperson; her duties were to listen to the teacher’s problems and discuss possible resolutions. Marian was also a member of a three-panel group who negotiated salaries, benefits and working conditions for teachers in the school district. This group researched contracts at other districts, determined the needs and wants of teachers in the district, and developed a plan to reach their goals.

The challenges of negotiating and satisfying all persons involved led Marian to attend law school, where she met Rebecca Bell. Upon graduation and acceptance to the MN Bar Association, Marian was accepted into the NEA Attorney Referral Program. She received numerous referrals and retired many years later.

In 2015, Marian joined rb LEGAL, LLC as “Of Counsel” – an honor that she cherishes and is proud to hold. Even though her official status is “retired,” she is proud to be part of this outstanding firm. The attorneys and staff members do not “watch the clock” – ensuring that sufficient time is given to each client to discuss and address their needs. Our clients can be assured that they, and the attorney they work with, thoroughly understand their needs, the process, possible solutions and satisfaction based on comprehensive research and timely communications.

Trish Phillips - practice manager

At the young age of 10, Trish began working for her father’s auto repair shop and her grandfather’s restaurant. About the same time, exposure to the migrant workers who came to town each summer to work the tomato fields sparked an interest in language and communications. These early, first-hand experiences of the joys and stresses of small, family-owned operations led her to pursue a degree in Business Management from the University of Cincinnati.

After college, Trish began a career in market research. She worked for large media companies, but her passion for small business continued. She consulted with small companies in various industries – news publishing, software, hospitality, non-profit, animal rescue and veterinary fields. Her passion is applying research data to help small businesses grow.

Trish joined rb LEGAL, LLC in 2014. Her varied experience comes in handy in her role in client service for our business and estate planning clients, and managing the office operations so that things flow as smoothly as possible. She loves that rb LEGAL, LLC is a different kind of law firm – one that takes the time to listen and provide clients what they need at a reasonable rate.
